Items of note include copybooks of Elbert Bedell, an early Freeport resident, 1840-1849; letters, receipts, subscription lists and other records concerning the building of the original Freeport Memorial Library, 1920; letters and programs from other libraries in Nassau County and material from the Nassau Library System; newsletters and clippings concerning public schools in Freeport; and anniversary programs and booklets from churches, clubs and social organizations in Freeport, inclucing the Church of the Transfiguration (Episcopal), the Freeport Lodge #1253 B.P.O.E. (Elks), the American Legion, and the 75th anniversary of the Incorporated Village of Freeport, 1967. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, to Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy of Brookline, Massachusetts.
